(G.V.): What else do you like?
(M.P.): Rice and salted sesame seeds and miso soup and pickles sometimes and squash.
(G.V.): Do you like Japanese food?
(M.P.): Yes.
(G.V.): Do you feel a connection with japan or something like that?(M.P.): Yes, the master of the macrobiotic ideal in Europe was Japanese.
(G.V.): Did you live with him?
(M.P.): No, he’s dead. He died in 1961, or sometime around then.(G.V.): Do you follow his instructions?
(M.P.): I try to follow his ideas, beliefs. He had very strong beliefs.(G.V.): Do you like having a strong discipline to follow?
(M.P.): I get the feeling that it’s necessary for me, but I used to feel differently.
(G.V.): Do you now have the urge to follow a strong discipline? (M.P.): Yes.
(G.V.): Did you follow some of the Japanese techniques, like martial arts?
(M.P.): Yes. I started with martial arts three years ago when I was twenty-five, then I stopped because I went abroad. Then I developed leukemia. Now I’ve started again with a different sort of martial arts.
(G.V.): Why?
(M.P.): I changed to a softer style.
(G.V.): And you liked the softer one?
(M.P.): Yes, it is more aesthetically pleasing.
(G.V.): You don’t like aggression?
(M.P.): It depends on what sort of aggression; if it is a positive aggression, then it’s okay.
(G.V.): You can take it?
(M.P.): Yes.
(G.V.): What was the idea behind it? Did you want to be able to defend yourself, or was it in order to be strong, a hero?
