was put into a warm Hypericum bath for half an hour, which relieved it greatly, and he was sent home with a Hypericum compress on thumb and on arm with the instructions to keep the dressings moist by pouring on Hypericum lotion, a few drops at a time, every two hours or whenever it felt dry. He returned 24 hours later, the swelling up the arm had receded and the shooting pains had disappeared. His thumb required Hypericum dressings for over a week; but it healed up nicely, no stiffness remained afterwards; the movements of the thumb were perfectly normal. In fact he had a 100 percent, useful hand and thumb.

Bite of a rat
A boy of about nine years while teasing a pet rat was bitten by the varmint on the first finger of the left hand. I found him horribly ill. The boy could talk only with great difficulty; his teeth were not quite firmly locked, but he was conscious of an almost momentary aggra- vation of the difficulty in separating the jaws; his neck was so stiff as to render any motion of the head almost impossible. With this was a nervous excitement and marked tremor of the body. I preferred Hypericum to Ledum, on account of there being more tenderness about the wound than its appearance would indicate, and gave him the 500th dose in water every fifteen minutes. This was about 8 P. M., and his mother stated the following morning that he had been very feverish and restless till 3 o clock, when, as he looked better and was sleepy, she did not give the medicine but about every two hours, when he moved or awoke. I found him sitting up in bed at nine o’clock amusing himself and his mother by opening and shut- ting his mouth and turning his head about, and quite indignant be- cause he could not be up and dressed, which was allowed on the day following.
