Scarlatina
My own child, aged six weeks, without any premonitory symptoms fell into a deep sleep which continued without two minutes interrup- tion, at least three days. Only by hard shaking and loud calling she could be awakened sufficiently to take hold of the breast, but before she had drawn a few swallows she went off again. I could discover nothing abnormal in the respiration, circulation or in the secretions. After a useless trial of Op., etc., there appeared at her lips large bub- bles. She received a few doses of Hyos., from which she awoke and was perfectly well for a few weeks, when a relapse required a repeti- tion of the remedy.

All he could tell would be what was told him by his attendants, which was about the same thing for each convulsion. The head would be drawn to the right side, frothing at the mouth, eyes rolled upward and to the right, spasmodic stertorous breathing, cyanotic appearance of the face, fingers clenched over the thumbs, with continuous jactitation
of every muscle in the body. As the spasm passed off the face would become deathly pale, which would extend over the entire body. After this a profuse perspira- tion which would last for some hours; as it would dry off he would awaken to be told he had had a very severe spasm; would feel very weak for one or two days, when he would regain his usual vigor. Felt gloomy and despondent all the time; could see but little that was worth living for; felt no pleasure in life; and, as he said, everything
