THE EMOTIONAL PICTURE
The Helleborus state of anxiety is the worst in our materia medica. You will see the patient walking up and down the floor calling for help constantly. He feels he is disintegrating into pieces, and total destruction of the mind is imminent. He is restless and anxious, as if always anticipating misfortune, he groans and grunts, and suffers such acute anxiety and nausea, that he thinks he is going to die. This dreadful anxiety can becomes better after vomiting.
‘He could neither sit, stand nor lie, and always pointed to his heart’. Sometimes they have to perform physical exercises for hours on end every day in order to ground themselves, and to lose some of this terrible anxiety.
Their emotions are contrary: inclined to be irritable, the most trifling thing which goes contrary to his wishes excites anger; irresolution in a state of mind which does not know what he wants; very indifferent mood, without joy or sorrow; indifference to loved ones, to pleasure; his anxiety is so great that in seeing a happy person he becomes sad. He despairs of his life – woeful, despairing moods with involuntary sighing.
Generalities
This remedy will be indicated after severe acute conditions that have not been cleared by other remedies. It is indicated when all mental symptoms have passed, and we are dealing with the consequent paralysis.
Helleborus is useful in affections of the brain, spinal cord, the general nervous system and mind, but especially in acute inflammatory diseases of the brain and spinal cord and their membranes, and mental problems bordering on psychosis. There is
