GRAPHITES
Plumbago, Black Lead, an allotropic modification of carbon (despite the common name, contains no metallic Lead).
Trituration made from high-quality pencil leads.
THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES
The Graphites patient is one suffering primarily from skin eruptions, or from suppressed eruptions which are usually the source of his other ailments. ‘When eruptions or discharges have disappeared suddenly from any cause and grave chronic phenomena have followed, Graphites is one of the medicines to be studied.’ (Kent)
The digestive system and especially the stomach are the most sensitive areas that will be affected after a skin eruption has been suppressed. Gastritis and duodenal ulcers usually develop, from a few months to within a few years after the suppression of the eruption, and the discharge of the eruptions is transformed to discharge of acids in the stomach that eventually will become ulcers.
The interesting thing is that the rest of the digestive system, like the colon, stops discharging the necessary lubrication and a severe constipation occurs. Constipation with unhealthy skin is a keynote for children. When you see this kind of chronic constipation in adults, you will have to look for more signs of this remedy and especially a previously suppressed severe eruption, even if it occurred 20 or more years ago.
The important thing that will guide you to this remedy is not simply a minor skin eruption, but a severe one; not a dry eruption, but one that produces a yellow, thick, honey-like discharge that sticks like glue. This kind of discharge is present in many, but not all,
Graphites cases.
