nails, varicose veins in the legs and insomnia, the remedy is Fluoric acid. With regard to insomnia, male patients will fall asleep at once on going to bed, but after three or four hours, they wake with an erection which keeps them awake for some time. In addition to sexual thoughts at this time, thoughts of business may also keep them awake. Painful, constant nocturnal erections are common (compare Staphysagria, Cantharis).
Their hair will often stick and mat together, and fall out. There is a degree of flabbiness of the Fluoric acid organism, especially of the vascular system, resulting in varicosity. Also, prolapse of the uterus and rectum is seen. Epitheliomata (crusting skin lesions) are typical.
Constipation can be so distressing as to drive these patients frantic; they become anxious when they fail to have a bowel movement. Similarly women can become anxious when menses are delayed.
Fluoric acid headaches are worse if the patient withholds urine. There can be prostate enlargement with frequent urination, and again, if the urine is held back, headache ensues.
This remedy also affects the cartilage in the ears, nose and joints. The ears become numb, the scalp becomes numb, there is a sensation as if the back of the head were made of wood. There is numbness of the feet and hands extending upwards; numbness in spinal affections; numbness of the limb not laid on.
Fluoric acid is indicated in fistular openings, fistula leading to the teeth, fistula lachrymalis and fistula in ano; chronic fistular openings leading to the bone discharging pus; lingering, low forms of ulcers and eruptions; oedema of certain parts; oedema of the prepuce.
