Ferrum will be useful in girls at puberty. There will be almost no menstrual flow, but a cough will develop, with great pallor; coughing the whole night that prevents them from sleeping, totally exhausting them.
Anaemia of all types and leukaemia, chronic headaches, liver affections, asthmatic and rheumatic and arthritic conditions are the primary pathology of this remedy, but you should never prescribe on this alone unless you have some of the following keynotes:
• Frequent attacks of trembling all over the body;
• Jerking and twitching of the muscles (chorea);
• Violent pain in the muscles, and along the nerves;
• Restlessness in a warm bed;
• Pulsations throughout the body, feeling like small hammers;
• Fullness of blood-vessels accompanies neuralgia, which is brought
on by washing in cold water, especially after being over-heated (compare Belladonna);
• All symptoms are worse while sweating;
• Kidney affections with anasarca, the action of the heart very irregular.
THE EMOTIONAL PICTURE
The mental state of Ferrum depends enormously upon the loss of blood. Women suffer emotionally around and during the menses. When they lose more blood than the organism can afford, they go into states of depression and anxiety. A kind of severe depression comes during the whole time of the menses, and gloomy feelings follow after. But if the menses are suppressed or absent, then they may go into nervous excitement. They can easily lose control and get almost violently angry, and can even lash out
