Extremities
Painful affections of the extremities.
Rheumatic pain of limbs, of a tearing or pressive-stinging character, almost exclusively while at rest, disappearing on motion.
Burning pain in joints and bones.
Paralytic weakness of the joints, with difficulty in rising from sitting. Spasmodic drawing in the right hand when writing; writer’s cramp.
Burning pain: in the bones of the hip and thigh, at night, so violent that they are waking from sleep; around the ankles, so violent that the prover wanted to scream, with heat of the parts.
Pain as if dislocated or sprained: in both hip joints; in the left thigh, high up near the bend of the thigh; in the left heel, periodically returning.
Painful lameness of the external side of the right hip joint on stepping.
Tensive pain from the gluteal muscles to the bend of the knee, as though the tendons in the left thigh were too short; on stepping forward.
Pain as though he had received a blow against the external side of the left calf. Great weakness of the legs, up to the knee, as if they were about to break down and could not support the body any longer.
The feet frequently go numb upward, even beyond the knees, while sitting, cannot move them; with painful crawling in the parts.
Tensive pain in the right shoulder, impeding raising of the arm; ameliorated on walking, but immediately increasing from a rest. But also:
‘Tension in the shoulder joint, like a paralysis, in the morning after rising, worse by motion’.
Sleep
Feels as if he had not slept enough, unrefreshed, and as if he lacked vital heat.
Great sleepiness during the day, especially after lunch. Cannot keep from sleeping; falls into a half-sleeping state, like stupefaction, and seems to be unable to ‘find a way out’ of this comatose state.
Sleeps with arms extended far above the head.
Insomnia and tremulous tossing about in bed, with buzzing in front of the ears. At night, when lying awake in bed, a sudden starting like an electric shock.
Anxious dreams.
