The following pathologies should make one think of Eupatorium, with characteristic symptoms of the remedy:
• Headaches like hemicrania, in combination or alternation with pain in the joints, aggravated every 3rd and/or 7th day.
• In the morning when first waking, headache with nausea which continues all day, every other day; good appetite during the intervening day.
• Occipital pain in the morning after lying down, with sensation of great weight in that part, requiring the hands to lift the head (compare Chelidonium). This symptom frequently manifests in people who suffer from liver or gall-bladder affections.
• Bronchitis with a violent, rough, hoarse, painful cough which may rack the entire frame, with a scraping in the throat. A characteristic in such cases is an amelioration of the cough (and especially of the pain caused by the cough) in a kneeling position, especially in a knee-elbow position.
• Hepatic and bilious complaints with icterus and sensation of fullness in the region of the liver; cannot tolerate tight clothing there, every jar is painful; urine the colour of mahogany, stool whitish.
• Gout and rheumatism, swelling and redness of the finger, toe and elbow joints, with great sensitivity to cold and severe pain in the bones.
