Violent rheumatic stitching and pressing pain in the back, aggravated at night and when at rest, ameliorated from motion; occurring after exposure to cold when sweaty.
Violent rheumatic stitching, drawing pain in small of back and shoulders.
Pain in small of back, as after stooping a long time.
Lameness in small of back after a cold; drawing extending from small of back down through the thigh, while at rest, with stitches on motion, relieved by pressure.
Sensation of coldness in small of back; at sacrum.
Peculiar pain in the lumbar region: in the loin above the right hip, a deeply cutting pain; in the loin above the left hip, a digging stitching pain, disappearing on walking but returning on sitting down; dull stitches, as if something were pressing outward, in both loins, on each inspiration, while sitting in a bent position.
Paralysis and disturbance of sensibility as a consequence of affections of the spinal cord. For instance: after catching cold, slight chill and dull pain in the lower cervical and upper dorsal vertebrae; turning in bed is difficult, as well as raising head. Next morning arms only movable with difficulty, feeling as if made of wood, especially the right hand, where formication and sensation of numbness are felt; cannot close the hand. Retention of stool. Cervical part of spine now totally stiff.
Extremities
Pain and paralyses of extremities after exposure to cold or after a wetting. Hahnemann already gives ‘tearing in limbs from cold’ as a well-tried clinical indication.
Intense feeling as if bruised in all limbs, all day.
‘He feels chilly and uncomfortable in all his limbs’.
Rheumatic fever. ‘Stitching-drawing and tearing pains in limbs, as after an acute exanthema or after catching cold, usually aggravated at night or in the evening, while at rest, because the fever mainly exacerbates at these times, with violent heat, dryness and burning of skin and thirst, will find their remedy in Dulcamara. It is better suited in catching cold suddenly after a profuse sweat’.
Trembling of all extremities.
