cervical and mesenteric lymph nodes and the Peyer-plaques may be much enlarged and hardened. But even cases of hypertrophy of the thyroid have been greatly ameliorated by Drosera.
The Mental Symptoms
The constitutional Drosera is an individual who is fearful and suspicious. Drosera patients are constantly living in fear of hearing bad news, fear of the letter box, the telephone, the doorbell. They have a sense that some bad news is on the way. They would prefer to leave their post unopened, to let the telephone or doorbell ring. Their anxiety is undefined but rather strong; they cannot say what it really is that they are afraid of, though a fear of the modern world and its evil possibilities is common. In this way it is similar to Mercury.
These fears may increase and amount to an actual paranoia: that everybody takes part in a conspiracy against them, planning dev- ious plots in order to cheat them, to make them lose their job, to deprive them of their money, etc. A Drosera patient feels helpless against ‘hostilities from all sides’, as a proving symptom puts it. ‘Anxiety as though his enemies did not leave him any peace, always envying and persecuting him’.
He has a feeling that other people are hiding something behind their everyday façade, something strange and unknown and tremendous, a nature that is insidious, deceitful, envious, and false. The Drosera patient may even believe that their persecutors are not really human, but alien intelligences from outer space that strive to destroy them. A fear of supernatural creatures, of aliens, vampires, ghosts, etc., is characteristic of this Drosera state. Behind such states, you may sometimes find that they were preceded several years before by tuberculosis.
