Neck and Back
Itching and burning over both scapulae.
Very sharp pain in left side of back, at tenth rib, very sudden; made prover jump. Pain in the region of the shoulder blades, shooting forward through the lungs, to near the nipples.
Lame sensation in back and sacrum.
Extremities
Rheumatic pain, worse at night and early in the morning. In the beginning of motion, the pain is aggravated, but continued motion brings a marked relief.
Stiff, aching hands and fingers, feet and toes; after exercising two hours hands and feet feel quite free from pain.
Cramps in the flexor tendons of fingers and toes, with colic pain in the abdomen; also in pregnant women.
Nails on fingers and toes unusually brittle.
Left shoulder painful, as if lame; thinks he cannot move it, but if he does move it all the same, he feels relief from movement.
Panaritium, especially when the pain is sharp, shooting or stinging. Complaints of the hip, with pain and impaired walking, especially right-sided; sciatica. ‘Right hip lame every day, as if the gluteus muscles were too short, aggravated by walking, relieved by rest’. Or: ‘Pain in right hip, extending down front side of leg, near to the knee; have to limp when walking’. Or else: ‘Cramping pain all day in right thigh, back side; the muscles seem too short; it is painful when walking’.
Weakness and aching of the knees. In the beginning walking is painful, but continued motion ameliorates.
Pain alternates from one knee to the other.
‘Dull, aching pain in the knee-joints, extending into the legs, vanishing on rubbing, but appearing in the feet. On ceasing the rubbing, the pain reappears in the knees. Moving the knee-joint relieves the pain, but the movement is difficult on account of a dry, grating sensation, as if the synovia were wanting in the joints’.
