He explicitly understands the actions of ‘this metal and its solutions’ under the ‘harmful actions of copper’; so to vindicate our combination of Cuprum aceticum and Cuprum metallicum under one heading, we have only to defer to this insight.
THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES
The main feature of Cuprum is cramp. Cuprum people suffer from cramps on all levels; on the physical level, but they are also cramped in their emotions, as well as displaying ‘cramped thinking’. It has also clonic and tonic spasms, convulsions, tics, grimaces, and spasms in general.
The cramps are of extreme intensity. When Cuprum persons make a simple movement, such as turning at night in bed, or stretching out a leg, this provokes such a terribly painful cramp in the leg that they have to cry out in pain. This happens especially if they have done hard physical work during the day, and go to bed exhausted, and also in cases where the liver has started causing problems. Causticum and Calcarea also have cramps in the calves at night in bed but never as severe as Cuprum. We may justly call Cuprum the most cramped and convulsive remedy of the whole materia medica.
‘Emotional Cramp’
The typical Cuprum patient has an emotional state that is also
‘cramped’; he has no release for his feelings, which cannot be expressed, and so tension, inhibition, and emotional cramping appear. Cuprum patients can have extreme passions and strong sexuality, and these instinctive drives may be so strong (even
