Tensive pressure externally upon the head, especially at the forehead and the muscles of the nape of the neck.
Pressive pain externally at the forehead, above the left eye, which is watering;
unable to open the eye because of the pain.
Pain as if bruised at the occiput or forehead, worse by rest and heat, better by movement and cooling the head, e.g. with a moist cloth.
Eyes
Biting in the eyes, with lachrymation.
Violent itching in the corners of the eyes and eyelids, compelling to rub them. Sensation of dryness in the eyelids, which seem to press against the eye.
‘Pressure in eye as from sand’.
A sticky feeling as if the eye were full of pus.
Agglutination of the eyelids in the morning, the eyes can be opened only with difficulty; also in blepharitis with nocturnal discharge of pus.
These subjective and objective proving symptoms have given rise to the use of Euphorbium in certain inflammations of the eyes. ‘Chronic ophthalmia, with very painful affections of the eyelids; they itch violently, exude moisture and agglutinate’ (Stapf). ‘Inflammations of the eyes, also obstinate ones, especially with itching and dryness in lids and canthi’ (Jahr). Strange illusions of vision: objects are seen in variegated colours and seem too big; or sees two people, one walking behind the other, instead of one person. Great myopia and dimness of vision; he only recognises familiar persons when they are very near, and even then he has the feeling as though he sees them through a veil. Because of this symptom, Euphorbium has even been prescribed in cataract.
Ears
Nocturnal buzzing before the ears, with trembling and tossing about in bed; unable to fall asleep, even to close the eyes.
Ringing in the ear, also when sneezing.
Chirping in the ear, as from crickets.
Earache, especially in the open air.
