Face
Anxious expression of face, with difficult breathing and insomnia.
Pale or red face, sometimes a dull reddish brown like mahogany, with glistening eyes.
Sudden severe contraction of muscles of right cheek.
Mouth
Tongue thickly coated yellow or white. Cracks of corners of mouth.
Paleness of mucous membranes of mouth. Breath smells mouldy, sourish.
Respiration
Cough, with soreness and heat in the bronchi; with hoarse and rough voice and scraping in the throat.
Short, dry cough, aggravated in the evening.
‘Cough causing sore pain in chest; the pain was so bad that he had to go down on his knees, as in that position the pain from coughing was less severe; this lasted a month (after 24 hours); the cough lasted afterwards slightly for a long time, and was finally removed by one dose of Eupatorium 200’ (from Berridge’s proving).
The amelioration by kneeling is confirmed by a case related by Clarke: ‘Every winter for several years the patient had been annoyed by a dry, hacking cough, with paroxysms lasting some time, only relieved by getting on hands and knees’.
Cough shaking the whole body, with great pain as if sore, especially in the bones; has to support the chest with his hands.
Cough causes stitching in the region of the liver and a feeling of fullness in the head, also redness of face and watering of the eyes.
Oppression of breath, dyspnoea. May be indicated in asthma and bronchitis with great dyspnoea, obliging the patient to lie with head and shoulders high. Sensation of a heavy weight behind the sternum. The retro-sternal pain may also make any twisting of the body impossible.
