Nose
Profuse epistaxis, blood usually being dark and fluid. Nash used the remedy successfully in many cases of profuse bleeding from the nose (as occurs in severe diphtheria), with intense prostration and exhaustion. But also:
‘Little quantities of bright and fluid blood from the nose’ (Hering). Ozaena after exanthematous diseases, with bloody discharge from the nose. Striking bluish redness of the tip of the nose which is swollen and cold; ‘drunkard’s nose’ even where there is no abuse of alcohol.
Face
‘Bad’ complexion, leaden-coloured or yellow. Also: bluish-red, cyanotic discolouration of nose and lips.
Face distended, puffy, especially at angles of lower jaw; parotids and submaxillary glands swollen. When there is fever with delirium, the face may also be red and distended.
Wakes up at night from sleep grinding her teeth, with much distorted face, mouth and nose drawn to the left.
Pressive facial pain, for example deep in the orbits, behind the ears or in the nasal bones, compelling to clamp the teeth together.
Trembling of lips, during spells of weakness and fainting.
Trigeminal neuralgia, with striking desire for pork.
Acne in the face, especially in the springtime; extreme forms of acne, with a bluish-red tint of the skin and bleeding, doughy, oedematous spots.
Crotalus has prevented the recurrence of facial erysipelas (which had been frequent).
Mouth
Excessive swelling of the tongue is characteristic of Crotalus. ‘Swelling of the tongue till there is no more room in the mouth, which is inflamed’. Speaking may be impaired or even impossible. ‘Cannot speak, tongue and throat feel tightly constricted’.
Often the swollen tongue, which sometimes also assumes a blackish colour,
protrudes from the mouth, frequently with quivering of the tip.
Yellow or yellowish-brown tongue, with dry centre. Or else: tongue red and sore.
