Violent itching of the scalp; also with increase of dandruff.
‘Shivering and crawling over hairy scalp as though the hair stood on end’.
Eyes
In retinal haemorrhage, either in connection with diabetic retinopathy or idiopathic, Crotalus is one of the main remedies.
Blood exuding from the eyes, dark and fluid, not coagulating.
Crotalus patients often also have bloodshot eyes. Red, watery eyes, with lachrymation.
The whites of the eyes are frequently discoloured yellow.
Crotalus may be indicated in violent eye pain. Burning pain in the eyes, with sensation of dryness and redness of the canthi and eyelids. ‘On moving the eyes, a pain like an inward pressure, and as though the eyes were too dry inwardly’. The remedy cured a case of ciliary neuralgia, with a tearing, boring, sometimes stitching pain that was described by the patient ‘as if a cut were made around the eye’; the pain was worse in the morning and evening. There was much sensitivity to candlelight, and swelling of the eyelids. Momentary loss of vision: while reading; especially in damp weather, with lachrymation.
Cutting pain around the eye coupled with visual disturbances: amblyopia, muscae volitantes, flames in various colours were seen before the eyes. These symptoms were removed by Crotalus, together with the pain.
Ears
Pure blood oozes from the ears, usually dark and uncoagulable. Also: offensive and bloody otorrhoea after exanthematous diseases, with considerable loss of hearing.
Sensation as if the right ear were obstructed, with a drawing in both ears, more so in the right ear. The drawing is coupled with sensation of heat and a feeling
‘as though ear wax were about to flow into the buccal cavity’.
