CROTALUS HORRIDUS
The North American rattlesnake.
N.O. Crotalidae.
Trituration of lactose soaked in the venom.
THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES
Crotalus is a remedy that you will usually think of where your best prescription, Lachesis, has failed to give substantial results; some- times Lach. will do some work and Crotalus will complete it. But there is definitely a separate entity for the typical Crotalus patient.
The Emotional Picture
The constitutional Crotalus patient is a vivacious and spontaneous individual, though with much fear and suspicion as well, especially about doctors and medicines. These are people who will suspect that even homeopathic remedies may harm them. Crotalus is a strong personality that likes to be at the forefront, is haughty and self confident, feels important and is quite selfish. They talk loudly, indeed they talk a lot, but many times will mumble and miss words like Lachesis.
They are people who love life and live it to the utmost, enjoying it to the limit, and sometimes they will be euphoric and apparently almost ecstatic. It is an interesting observation that the poisoning from Crotalus creates a tremendous rush of blood to the head. This over-oxygenation of the brain cells seem to create the picture we see at the beginning stages of Crotalus, with over-activity and euphoria before the blood has been spoiled and thinned, after which we see the opposite picture to the one described above.
