perhaps Pulsatilla or Ferrum. But if you recognize this keynote symptom – worse when rested – you might think to turn towards Adonis. So, despite a heart condition and general weakness, we see a patient who feels worse when lying down, which is a keynote for Adonis It seems that the heart goes into a sort of stalemate, and in this state it needs some kind of stimulation to keep it going. With this heart condition you will often see that the act of lying, or rising, or turning over in bed will cause vertigo.
The Adonis patient will resemble a Pulsatilla patient. He will say, “If I go for a nice walk in the open air I feel better.” You see that the remedies are very close. The important thing is that you com-prehend the crux of the matter- the gross pathology of the heart with Sepia or Pulsatilla symptoms- worse resting, heart feeble then you get Adonis right from the beginning instead of waiting after giving Pulsatilla, Ferrum, Sepia or different remedies. For example, we have peculiar symptomatology when we see that the patient has a kind of fainting feeling that comes from the epigastrium. This faint feeling can eventually turn into anxiety and a feeling of fear rises from the stomach. This is very similar to Mezereum and Kali carbonicum. But don’t be mislead: although Kali carbonicum also affects the kidneys and heart, it feels better when resting. And if you have this type of fear rising from the stomach and the patient has a problem with skin disease, then you would consider Mezereum instead of Adonis vernalis. When you have fear rising from the stomach, arthritic condition, and and worse from least drafts, you should go to Kali carbonicum. Something that you may see in Adonis, when the heart is not well functioning, you may see periods of depression as well as periods when his mind does not seem to be functioning properly and the patient appears to be drunk.
This is a little remedy, but it is a good one to keep in mind. In the Materia Medica I am preparing, I’ve given more Adonis symptomatology, so you’ll be able to use it as a reference source.
