(Therapist): No, he has not taken anything else since you gave him Kali carbonicum.
(G.V.): But he took Strontium.
(Therapist): He has only taken what he has told you he has taken.(A.8): Is it a typical Kali carbonicum reaction to have a stiff neck for three days or even longer?
(G.V.): No, it is not typical but it can happen. He could have this reaction – the stiffness in the cervical region – in connection with a liver dysfunction. Often when you encounter liver problems, you will see a stiffness of the neck that can become quite painful. This is a side effect of Kali carbonicum, a remedy that also has a strong effect on the liver. After this lecture the coffee drinker will say, “What happened?” You will look at each other and ask, “Do you drink coffee? Oh God!”

SMALL REMEDY: ADONIS VERNALIS

(G.V.): How about a small remedy? (enthusiastic “Yes!”) I’ll give you some hints concerning Adonis Vernalis. This is a remedy that you will most probably need when you have gross pathology of the heart, especially if kidney problems or rheumatic conditions are implicated. We can have pericarditis, myocarditis, endocar-ditis, cardiac asthma, chronic aortitis, all of which have gross pathology. This is particularly true in cases where the myocar-dium has been weakened and no longer has sufficient natural energy to contract, and develops cardiac dropsy, cardiac asthma, or heart enlargement. Also in cases where the valves are faulty and we see mitral regurgitation. You must understand that you are dealing with very gross pathology in cases like these. Before you decide to prescribe Adonis, most probably you will have prescribed another more common remedy first, which had no effect. That is the moment when you are justified in prescribing according to the pathology alone, because in these small rem-edies we do not know enough of the mental-emotional picture to
