Case 2: Insanity

INTERVIEW

Case history of Female Patient: Daignosis: Insanity attacks. First came for Homeopathic treatment in Sept 1986. Most recently, the patient has suffered from weakness since July, fol-lowing a period during which the children went away on holiday and she was left alone with her husband. At that time, she began to have pain in her right hypochondrium, which wandered, more or less, all through her body. The patient’s history suggests that the patient’s parents did not pay her much attention. At sixteen, she had a boyfriend, but she could not tolerate sexual demands. Consequently, she would let herself collapse to the ground and play unconscious. She reports that this was the first time she escaped into her disease. She could never talk about this inci-dent. While abroad a year later, she was afraid that she would not be able to fulfill her tasks, so she again faked unconsciousness. At that time, she was diagnosed as having epilepsy. The patient refused to eat, suffered a nervous breakdown, and was probably treated with electro-shock therapy. Hallucinations about God and her lost virginity began around this time. She lived in con-stant anxiety of being discovered, which forced her to continue faking these ‘epileptic’ episodes. Upon her return home she felt very guilty about her deception while abroad.
