ing, so had blood examination and urinalysis made. The day fol- lowing, and before the laboratory report was received, pneumonia of the left lower lobe could be clearly diagnosed. The following day the whole lobe was consolidated, the temperature now being over 104, pulse 120, respirations from 36 to 50. The Laboratory gave an unfavorable prognosis, based upon the increased total white cell count, increased polymorpho nuclears and the absence of eosino- philes, together with almost complete absence of sodium chloride in the urine, stating that usually less than one grain is certain indication of approaching death. This patient was given Iodine, 2x. every two hours on the fourth day of illness. Later the crepitant and sub-crep- itant rales had returned, the temperature was one degree less in the morning of every day until it became normal. He made a good re- covery. No other remedy was necessary after beginning the Iodine.

Nervous shock
I once used Iodum with excellent effect in the case of a young wom- an who had had a nervous and had lost all appetite and desire to live. She was much emaciated, and had quietly made up her mind to starve herself to death. I gave five drops of Iod. 3x in a wineglass of water half an hour before meal-times, and her appetite returned with such vigour she could not choose but eat, and was soon restored to a normal mental and bodily state. I have recorded another similar case of nervous shock producing rapid emaciation and vomiting cured by Iod. in my book on Indigestion.
