you what exactly he is anxious about. He just wants to keep busy, to do something constantly in order to release the energy as soon as possible, otherwise he will go crazy. He cannot relax. He becomes irritable and cross without real reason. He gets fits of anger where he can be screaming to his family or close friends who try to approach him or who are just nearby.
This negative energy is activating the wrong section of the brain cre- ating various impulses, the worst being a desire to kill, not just anybody but a specific person whom he loves or admires. It is in- teresting that although such an impulse arises in the chronic states mostly where the thyroid is involved, in the acute states the impulse to kill comes during the fever, where he just wants to kill anybody who comes near. This impulse is closely related to Arsenicum, Nux vomica, Thea and Hepar. The differentiation is easy: the sensitive- ness to heat will at once decide, because the Iodine is warm-blooded while the others are usually chilly. These attacks of violence or impulses come on unexpectedly, especially when the patient is quiet, still or during rest. Being occupied or in motion ameliorates this mental state.
This constant restlessness and need to be in motion continuously finally exhausts the patient.
Then there is the other side of the remedy where there is no energy, where the manic state gives its place to depression and tiredness. The patient becomes weak in both the mental and physical plane. The memory is greatly affected, losing its ability to retain informa- tion. The patient cannot remember little things, it seems as if they pass out of the mind. For example he forgets what he was about to say or do, he leaves the store forgetting his bags, etc. The forgetful- ness is extensive. There is always the feeling that they have forgotten something. He goes back again and again to see if he has closed the heater. The patient writes down all the symptoms out of anxiety in order not to forget any when visiting the homeopath. A mental dullness develops, which renders thinking difficult and leads to such fixed ideas. It becomes difficult to collect his senses and he becomes irresolute.
