tem leads eventually to a gradually increasing weakening, resulting in paralysis. This can occur in typhoid fever, after convulsions, after diphtheria, after apoplexy, etc. We also find hemiplegia, paralysis agitans, paralysis of motor and sensory nerves, paralysis of organs. Hyoscyamus niger has various cramping and spasmodic com- plaints; chorea.
Convulsions, epilepsy, worse at night, during sleep, around men- ses, during pregnancy, during or after delivery, in alcoholism, from fright, grief or excitement, from worms.
There can be little attacks with twitching or violent attacks so that it seemed as if joints or spine would be broken. Another example is suddenly falls to the ground with a cry and convulsions. Some- times there is stiffness all over body as in tetanus. Convulsions can be all over the body or wandering and affecting different muscle groups one after another; long lasting spasms; convulsions of upper limbs alternating with convulsions of lower limbs.
Symptoms before convulsions: vertigo, sparks before eyes, noises in ears, twitching of facial muscles of face especially about eyes, hunger, shrieking.
Symptoms during convulsions: unconsciousness, shrieking, diplopia, protruding eyes, distortion of face, grimaces, bluish face, grinding teeth, foaming from mouth, hiccough, vomiting, invol- untary urination, opisthotonos, angular motions, jerks of single muscles or sets of muscles, flexed limbs, stamping on the floor with one feet at a time.
Symptoms after convulsions: deep sleep, snoring, dark co- loured bloated face.
Hyosciamus niger also has paroxysmal complaints of a nervous character. Nervous, hysterical symptoms like twitching, cough, con- stipation, diarrhoea, etc. Hysterical pains before menses.
The circulation is heightened so that blood burns in the blood ves- sels, which are distended all over the body.
It is used in apoplexy with sleepiness, snoring, involuntary stool and urine.
Generally worse at night, from cold, in connection with menses, pregnancy, delivery.
Food and drinks: Aversion to water.
