THE MENTAL PICTURE
Graphites in my experience is indicated in people who are quite healthy on the mental and emotional levels, quite down-to-earth, no-nonsense, with no flights of imagination. In some cases we see anxiety, fear and depression, but not very strong or very deep examples. They are often obese, but their bodies are built solidly, like farmers. They are unrefined people, who will behave inappropriately at a social gathering; a woman, obese as she is, will sit with her legs open, not considering the impression this creates in others.
When the mind is affected we find that they have strong irresolu¬tion, they cannot decide even for trifling things. It is the result of insecurity, of a weak and unclear mind. They will even develop anxiety about the consequences of any decision; they are unable to make a decision without regretting it afterwards. Trifles seem very important to them.
The mind becomes easily dull, heavy, slow to comprehend, there¬fore they have an aversion to mental work. Concentration is difficult for them; when they try to concentrate they become restless. Their mental state is usually one of discontent; they are timid and reserved, but easily offended. They can be very obstinate and sometimes display a very disagreeable and overbearing personality. They see everything in a serious light, and if things do not go according to their will, they become irritated. They can also be quite critical of others.
Dullness permeates the provings: dullness after siesta, after eating, during perspiration. Dullness of mind with heat in face and head, especially of the nose. Weakness in head, can scarcely think. Absent-mindedness is also typical; weakness of short-term memory, they remember better events long past, they may clearly recall all the events of their youth, while recent events are forgotten; obscure remembrance, even of what has just passed.
