sun and to heat. Headache and weakness can result from exposure to the sun.
If the extremities feel paralyzed as a result of stress (such as a pianist feeling a sensation of paralysis in his hands after much playing), one should think of Gelsemium. There are trembling, convulsions, and finally paralysis coupled with intense heaviness; heaviness of the entire body, especially the eyelids and the legs.
THE EMOTIONAL PICTURE
The emotional state of Gelsemium is one that cannot be easily described. What strikes you immediately after seen such a patient who suffers on emotional level is their emotional frailty. They seem to be emotionally terribly aged, with no strength, they describe in uncertain words an inner weak trembling sensation, no desire or stamina to come into contact with others, to socialise, to be involved in discussion, to communicate. They prefer to stay alone, to avoid contact with people, and of course it is impossible for them to appear publicly, either on stage, or in a television or radio program.
Even meeting with a small group of people to discuss ordinary matters is a nightmare for them. In our references it says they show cowardice, but the meaning is not only in avoiding fighting, it is an inner weakness that makes them non-reactive, even when insulted by others, and even when they are accused falsely they will not defend themselves. They will admit readily that they have great lack of courage, stage fright.
Their insecurity reaches such a state that even when they have an appointment with friends to go to the theatre, or to a meeting, they may have a loose stool. The rectum seems to become paralyzed and unable to control the turmoil that is going on within the colon. Of
