hyperaemia of the brain, which is why local application of cold water to the head or face ameliorates. In the same way, local symptoms are ameliorated with profuse urination. Neuralgic pain in the face, headache, and pain in the eyes are better with urination or cold application. Even mental confusion is better when washing the face with cold water.
Pain in the teeth, with hot, swollen gums is ameliorated by holding cold water in the mouth. All these are symptoms indicating a congestion of blood and a weakness in the vascular system. ‘Congestion of head and organs, with fever and red face.’
The amelioration of the headache from urination looks like Gelsemium, but the two remedies cannot be confused. The Gels. patient is much weaker, with a hardly perceptible pulse, trembling legs, exhausted to extremes when the fever is no more than 38°C.
THE EMOTIONAL PICTURE
The chronic constitutional type of Fer-phos is a patient who has been suffering with any sort of anaemia, and at the same time has moments of hyperaemia of the brain, and congestion of blood to the head. This situation makes them feel changeable in their moods and reactions. They will therefore be very sensitive and unpredict¬able in the emotional sphere. Usually in the evening they can be excitable, talkative and sometimes aggressive and impetuous, while at other times they feel timid, shrinking and closed up and they do not want to talk to anybody.
They feel sensitive and tired and will seek a quite place in nature in order to feel good; they will feel annoyed and disturbed in a busy and noisy town. ‘Walking in a quiet part of the city after dark had a soothing, pleasant effect, ceasing on returning to the
