Generalities
The patient is unable to breathe naturally, nor even to twist the body either to the right or left, because of soreness behind the sternum. In this symptom the pain compelled the prover to keep still; which is an exception to the rule that in Eupatorium, pain makes it intolerable to keep still. Notwithstanding this, many symptoms of this remedy are aggravated by motion although the patient feels compelled to move, and also by jar.
There is nausea from the least motion.
Peculiar periodicity, ‘double’ or multiplex: headaches every third and seventh day; aggravation in the morning of one day and in the afternoon of the next day, etc. An aggravation of all symptoms in the morning is rather frequent; sometimes every morning, sometimes every other morning, or at greater intervals.
General aggravation by cold, by cold air and cold drinking; sensitive to changes in the weather, may feel a coming thunderstorm by an ache in his great toe.
By way of conclusion, two cured cases from the literature:
‘A stout man of 35 years, dark complexion, went into an ice- house on a hot forenoon and remained there for some time. Suddenly he felt a chill and seemed to faint. One hour later, an exceedingly severe chill came on, lasting several hours and followed by a constant burning fever heat which again was followed by coldness the next morning. I got to see the patient at the time when the heat returned; face reddened, eyes swimming, scleroticae yellowish-red, tongue thickly coated yellow.
