Obstruction of the left nostril only.
Great dryness of the nasal mucous membrane.
A strange symptom from the proving:
‘After two days of stopped coryza, a very violent, fluent catarrh. Discharge of mucus resembling melted tallow [fat] and leaving greasy spots on linen, in very great quantities, filling four handkerchieves in one hour. This mucus was odourless and was dripping from the nose as freely as blood does in epistaxis. The discharge ceased for a short time but came back again, for two weeks’.
Painful feeling as if the nasal bones were pushed apart, extending partly into the frontal sinus, partly toward the eyes and into the temples.
Face
Heat in the face, increased by bending head forward.
Grows purple and even black in face, with an extremely violent spas- modic cough and dyspnoea.
Left submandibular glands swollen and painful, more so on swallowing and bending head forward.
Cracked and painful lips.
Facial pain, usually occurring on the left side: ‘Extremely sensitive drawing pain in the external wall of the left orbit, whence the pain extends down beneath the cheek-bone’. Or: the left zygoma is painful as if bruised, worse when touched.
On the left side there is also a pain as if sprained in the articulation of the jaw, occurring on abducting the lower jaw, biting or yawning.
Mouth
Every tooth on left side feels as if set on edge; as if teeth were too close to one another, or as if a tenacious body were lodged between them. White-coated tongue.
Disturbances of the sense of taste: everything tastes like sawdust; farinaceous foods taste like straw; beer tastes sweet.
