swelling around some molars’ (Hoppe). Most frequently they are of a drawing or tearing character, and much aggravated at night. ‘Drawing toothache, without being able to locate it in a special tooth, disappearing when eating, and raging especially in the night, with a feeling of elongation of teeth’ (Hahnemann).
Great heaviness in the alveoli (in back teeth of upper jaw), as if they were filled with lead; with digging and boring in the roots as if the alveoli were distended and formed a hard and tensive swelling.
Nervous toothaches during menstruation or pregnancy, rendering the patient frenzied with pain.
Gums red and tender; swollen. This remedy is indicated in a lot of ailments of teething children. Difficult dentition of different kinds, with diarrhoea, colic, convulsions, cough, sleeplessness and other complaints, if the mental make-up fits in with the Chamomilla picture and key-notes such as ‘one red cheek’ and ‘hot, clammy sweat on head’ are present. ‘The Chamomilla infant will often hold a glass of cold water against the gums. The little one has swollen gums, painful gums, the coming forth of the teeth is painful, and it seems to want to prolong the cold in the mouth, when it is so young you would not think it would realise the good of making use of the cold edge of the glass’ (Kent). The tongue is often thickly furred, a yellowish-white or dirty white coating. On and under the tongue, vesicles with stinging pain.
In convulsions of children, the tongue may bend convulsively from one side to the other, or else the teeth are firmly clenched.
Profuse salivation, especially at night; of a sweetish metallic taste.
Foetid, foul or sour odour from the mouth.
Bitter taste, especially in the morning. Everything eaten tastes like old rancid fat. Or there is a sour taste, especially bread tastes sour.
Throat
Burning heat in pharynx, extending to mouth and stomach (Jahr).
Spasmodic constriction of the pharynx; sometimes with severe stitches extending upward, until the base of the skull.
Sore throat with a feeling of a plug in the throat, when swallowing. Inability to swallow solid foods, more especially when lying.
Pain in left side of fauces while swallowing; with somewhat reddened velum,
