PROGRAMME FOR CONTINUOUS EDUCATION OF DOCTORS IN HOMEOPATHY:UNIVERSITY OF THE AEGEAN & INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF CLASSICAL HOMEOPATHYThe University of the Aegean in co operation with the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy (Director: Professor George Vithoulkas) has started 2-year courses in Homeopathy. The program is intended for doctors, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists and it includes 400 hours of teaching that cover the theory of classical homeopathic medicine and pharmacology and live cases of chronic diseases with long-term follow-ups.
The lectures are held simultaneously in Athens and Salonica, on Saturday and Sunday, at three week intervals. The curriculum is supplemented with a week long Summer School on the island of Alonnisos, with teaching by Professor G. Vithoulkas.
An attendance certificate is awarded by the University of the Aegean and the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy.
This programme is now in its third successful year .
At this stage, spoken language is greek. The courses intend to show the correct way of thinking during the process of case taking and the accurate evaluation and synthesis of the symptomatology in order to end up with the correct homoeopathic remedy - the similimum. The practitioners have the opportunity to attend all live cases and long follow-ups of them. During the teaching, there is always a differential diagnosis of remedies. In this way the practitioners are given the suitable information in order to be able to make a correct prognosis and evaluation of the health of each patient according to Vithoulkas’ theory of levels of health. There is a comprehensive analysis for the decision of dosage and the potency of the indicated homoeopathic remedy not only according to the levels of health but also according to various other parameters that homeopath must take in to consideration. Professor George Vithoulkas emphasizes the comparative Materia Medica and a plethora of new ideas regarding to function of human organism in health and disease. During the courses of 2006, below are some of pathologies were presented by the medical doctors: ADD, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, Asperger disease, multiple sclerosis, Sjogreen syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto thyroiditis, primary billiary cirrhosis of the liver, leucomyelitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, ocular malignant melanoma, autism etc. Generally, the courses consist of a mixture of: live cases with follow ups, analysis, and evaluation of each case, prescribing strategies, differential Materia Medica, homoeopathic philosophy, homoeopathic theory, in-depth insight in to the difficulties encountered in homoeopathic prescribing, miasmatic theories and application of them. In short, in the International Academy the student will be able to see the practical application of unicist homeopathy and most of all the effectiveness of Classical, Hahnemannian Homeopathy. In the framework of the co operation between the University of the Aegean (Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering) and the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy, scientific meetings are organised to publicise results in research and education and also to nurture a culture of scientific questioning and dialogue.
In this spirit, at the end of the 2004-2005 academic year, a one day research meeting was was held in the University of the Aegean on Syros on “Research Mapping in Homeopathic Medicine”. The meeting was very successful with much interest from the audience, who came to listen to scientists from Greek Universities as well as Universities abroad. The final conclusions of the meeting, were that: - research in Homeopathic Medicine has already paid off with solid scientific data and is also rich in new research suggestions that not only come from medical science but also from other scientific directions.
- the Systems Theory approach, which has been adopted by the University of the Aegean in its embracing of research into Homeopathy is offering fresh insights into research that is based on holistic systems.
- research that is interdisciplinary in nature, and which is currently being undertaken in Greece can offer ways forward for research into Homeopathic Medicine, expanding at the same time its horizons, by utilising the established practices of the university community, and taking advantage both the great experience of Greek doctors in the practice of Classical Homeopathy and the inspired presence of the 1996 Alternative Nobel Prize winner G. Vithoulkas.
